"If you cannot find the truth right where you are, where else do you expect to find it?" - Dogen Zenji
Hi Harry, Followed up over here. I can't actually watch the video, though-weak internet in the gulch. What did you mean that" 'keeping it in their pants', this model is the pits..." ?Did you mean that we need something better than just expecting our teachers to "keep it in their pants" or did you mean that the Rinpoche's example is a horrible model for those who are expected to keep it in their pants. I actually can't believe I used that phrase. What I really mean is that our teachers need to handle sex like the a poisonous snake- very carefully. What I really mean is I'd like for our teachers not to have sex with our wives and husbands. If they HAVE to have sex with a student, they should send that student to another teacher and wait until it's appropriate. I also think it's unfair to think they should never let "it" out of their pants. I think this is what has caused such a leaking of sexual misconduct in the catholic church. The middle way. Can't they wait to have sex with my husband or wife after were divorced?!
Hi Farmer Monk,I mean it's 'the pits' because it's completely unregulated within the org or from outside: there are no standards (Sogyal certainly doesn't seem to have exhibited any laudable personal controls on it), and no checks to ensure that abuses are avoided. Add to that a cultish code of silence and of not criticising the Guru, and the religious/traditional view (reinforced by actual visualisation practices) of the Guru as a 'living buddha'/ 'perfect being' and you have a recipe for quite a shitstorm. It shouldn't be left to the teachers to handle 'the snake' (can't believe you said that either! :-)); it should be a matter of principled standards of practice and organisational checks, including, of course, a facility for members to criticise and question what is going on when they detect possible abuses. What Sogyal has going on is what makes sex 'a poison'. It needn't be, and this can be collectively avoided to an extent I think.Regards,Harry.
why not look at this sort of thing which occurs endlessly as simply illustrating that the whole notion of teacher and what is being taught is a fraud? it's all just some endless reproductive voynich?
